Schmidt Named Battle Creek Elementary Principal
Maury County Public Schools Superintendent Michael Hickman announced Joanna Schmidt as the principal at Battle Creek Elementary School effective immediately.
Upon hiring Mrs. Schmidt for the Battle Creek Elementary Principal position, Superintendent Michael Hickman stated, "We are excited for Mrs. Schmidt to accept the principal position at Battle Creek Elementary. She will not only bring her experience in administration but her strong instructional background. Please join Maury County Schools in welcoming Mrs. Schmidt."
Mrs. Schmidt shared when she found out about being chosen, "I am thrilled and honored to be hired as the principal at Battle Creek Elementary. I am eager to become a BCES Cub and join the staff, families, and community in this uniquely designed school."
When asked about her history, "Before moving with my family to Spring Hill, TN, I spent nearly ten years as a classroom teacher in grades 1st-4th. My first job after moving here was serving as the Elementary Sub-Populations coordinator for Williamson County Schools, where I was successful in helping to close achievement gaps throughout the county.
Before coming to Maury County Public Schools in 2017, I served as a reading interventionist at Nolensville Elementary. I also taught reading and language arts in 5th grade at Longview Elementary and Chapman's Retreat Elementary for four years.
I have spent the last four years as Assistant Principal for Spring Hill Elementary, where I have had the good fortune to create team-like relationships with the faculty and parents. I look forward to fostering similar positive relationships at Battle Creek Elementary. It is vital to me to maintain strong communication and accountability with our Battle Creek staff and families. Throughout my tenure at Spring Hill Elementary, I have helped support our Response to Intervention program and maintain and grow our positive behavior support system."
Mrs. Schmidt earned her Educational Leadership master's degree in 2015 from Lipscomb University. Her Bachelor of Arts comes from Western Washington University in Bellingham, WA.
"It is a priority of mine to continue the great work happening at Battle Creek Elementary. My goal is to make certain that students feel safe and work hard to reach their goals. I believe my natural enthusiasm and drive for success for all students will be evident as we work together to provide the high-quality education that families have come to expect." stated Mrs. Schmidt.
Please join Maury County Public Schools in welcoming Mrs. Schmidt to Battle Creek Elementary.
